Lemon Mint (Bergamot Mint) — FUUKA Essential Oil Database

  • Latin Name: Mentha citrata
  • Origin: Nepal
  • Extraction Method: Distillation of leaves

Characteristics

Lemon Mint (Bergamot Mint) is an essential oil obtained from a plant in the mint genus (Lamiaceae family). Although called "Bergamot Mint," it is botanically unrelated to citrus Bergamot — its main components are linalool and linalyl acetate. It contains almost no menthol, making it quite different in character from mint-family oils like Peppermint. Our supplier, De Groene Linde, notes this distinction clearly as well. Its scent is gentle and mild, like a blend of citrus and mint.

Psychological Benefits

Said to offer a gentle sedative quality while also encouraging motivation — known as an oil that's easy to use even during the day.

Physical Benefits

  • Studies have reported that its main components, linalool and linalyl acetate, show sedative and anti-anxiety effects.
  • Traditionally used to ease nasal congestion and care for digestive discomfort.
