"Is There a Way to Get Rid of This Scent?"
One of our early customers reached out with a question like this.
"Honestly, I just can't stand this scent. I want to get rid of it right now, off my hands and my clothes."
We check every product before shipping, so I wondered what could be going on, and asked for more detail.
The Scent in Question Was "Speak"
What this customer found "unpleasant" was one of the HSP series scents, HS5: Speak.
It's a slightly distinctive scent, but personally, I don't dislike it at all.
Some days I even find it refreshing.
The Relationship Between the Showa/Heisei Eras and "Words"
People who lived through the Showa and Heisei eras, I've come to feel,
often treated swallowing their words as simply how you were supposed to live.
In fact, the Showa-generation people I've worked with over the years have often given me the impression of not saying much at all.
Why I, Someone Good at Wordless Conversation, Notice This
I'm the type who's good at "conversation without words."
That's exactly why I can sometimes communicate naturally, even with people others find difficult to connect with.
Maybe this heightened HSP sensitivity has become a kind of "weapon" for me, in its own way.
Your Own Opinion Isn't "Selfishness"
"I've swallowed my words for so long that I've lost track of what I actually feel."
I suspect more people feel this way than you'd expect.
"Putting your own opinions or wishes into words is selfish"—
some of you may have grown up being taught exactly that.
When a Scent You Dislike Shows Up, That's Your Chance
Linde's founder, Marianne, left behind these words:
"When you pick up this item, if you find you don't like the scent, that might be a sign of something."
To anyone who's picked up Speak and thought, "this scent, a little...":
That scent might be carrying a message your own heart wants to tell you.
Try quietly listening to it, just once, with an open mind.
