You Really Made It Through — My Childhood as an HSC

If I could say something to my childhood self, "you really made it through" is the phrase that fits best.

I was always the "good kid" who stepped back, watched everyone around me, read the room, and acted accordingly. No matter what happened, I never fell apart, and I think teachers and my parents held me in a kind of quiet regard as someone who "would be fine." But that wasn't because I didn't feel anything — I think I had simply grown used to keeping myself from feeling what I felt.

Maybe because we moved so often, I spent a lot of time gazing outside, lost in imagination. Thinking about the place we'd left behind, the small bonds I'd made there, and somewhere in my heart, half-believing that "maybe my real parents will come for me someday." That may have been my own small refuge for escaping reality.

It might have been painful. But that's only something I can see looking back now — at the time, it was the only world I knew, so I believed "this is just normal." I assumed everyone else felt, absorbed, and saw things the same way I did.

But now, knowing the word "HSC," I've finally realized: that was a world that belonged only to me.

I couldn't put my feelings into words and let them out. But my body did it for me, in the form of an eating disorder. Eating a lot, then throwing it up, brought a sudden sense of relief. I never realized, back then, that this had become "the only way I knew how to hold myself together."

Even now, as an adult, that sensitivity remains. But encountering scent gave me a small refuge within myself.

If I could hand a scent to that version of myself back then, here's what I'd want to say:

"You're not special. You're going to be okay. But if you're still worried, let me give you a little charm. When you come home from outside, give this a spritz. When you head back out, give this one a spritz. I'm sure you're going to become someone even more wonderful."

FUUKA's aroma isn't magic. But it can surely become a tool for helping you realize, "maybe I'm actually amazing." It's just aroma. But I believe, truly, that it won't leave you with regrets, whatever you're going through right now.

In Closing

If you, or someone you love, are living with the kind of sensitivity I had back then, please pick up a FUUKA scent, just once. May it quietly sit with you, in the moment you're able to think, "it's okay to just be me."

When you come home from outside, give No.1 Cleansing a spritz.
Before you head out, carry No.2 Protection with you, like a charm.
